Gerold Noerenberg

Gerold Noerenberg (* 19th May 1957 in Neu-Ulm ) is a German CSU - local politicians and was on 14 January 2004 to May 1, 2020 Mayor of the district town of Neu-Ulm.

Life

Born and raised in Neu-Ulm, he joined the Neu-Ulm branch of the CSU in 1975. There he was u. a. Assessor , auditor , chairman, deputy and assessor in the party's district committee. In 1976 he passed the Abitur at the Neu-Ulm Lessing-Gymnasium . He then studied law at the University of Augsburg . From 1981 to 1984 he worked as a freelancer in a law firm in Augsburg . In 1984 he finished his studies with a law degree. In the same year he opened his own law firm in Neu-Ulm for legal issues relating to civil, labor and criminal law. In 1996 he was elected to the city ​​council of his hometown for the CSU , to which he has belonged ever since. From 1999 to 2002 he was CSU parliamentary group leader in the city council. From May 1, 2002 to January 13, 2004 he was the second full-time mayor.

Lord Mayor

On January 11, 2004, he won the mayoral election with 51.3% of the vote, ahead of the SPD candidate and the candidate from Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . Since January 14, 2004 he has been Lord Mayor of Neu-Ulm. One of his first official acts in 2005 was the closure of the well-known Neu-Ulm multicultural house . The house was a hub of Islamist activities and a hub for high-ranking terrorists in Germany .

He was re-elected as Lord Mayor on March 2, 2008. Noerenberg won the runoff election for Lord Mayor on March 30, 2014 with a mere 100 majority and 50.3% of the votes cast. The turnout was extremely low at 34.3%.

Victim of assault

On September 11, 2009, he was attacked and knocked down in his office by Khaled al-Masri , who had been convicted of dangerous bodily harm, insults, trespassing and arson , who had stayed in the multicultural house until it was closed. A few days earlier, Masri had delivered a letter addressed to the mayor at the town hall . Al-Masri was arrested two hours after his escape and imprisoned in the Memmingen correctional facility . There is still no clear information about his motive. In a letter from prison, he expressed his anger that the city of Neu-Ulm tolerated brothels. The decisive factor for these changes to the brothel regulations was not the city of Neu-Ulm and thus Noerenberg, but the administrative district of Swabia .

On March 30, 2010, al-Masri was sentenced to two years' imprisonment without parole because of the attack by the Memmingen Regional Court for willful assault. He has appealed against the judgment because of the sentence.

Private

Gerold Noerenberg is married to the lawyer Cornelia Bögle-Noerenberg.
