Society for media in science

The Society for Media in Science (GMW) is a registered association in Germany that deals with issues of media use in university teaching and research. The GMW was founded in 1991 on the initiative of the IWF Knowledge and Media .

Club goals

  • Support research and the sensible use of media at universities
  • Promotion of the testing of media-based learning scenarios
  • Promotion of critical reflection on the potential of new media
  • Promotion of the media literacy of its members
  • Consolidation of the individual activities at the universities

target group

Natural and legal persons from all professional fields who deal theoretically or practically with the use of media in science can become members. There are no regional restrictions.

activities

The Union

  • cooperates itself and promotes cooperation in the areas of information, production, documentation and distribution,
  • provides information on its website about research and development projects and production technology,
  • publishes specialist publications,
  • has been organizing specialist conferences and training courses since 1993.

The association is the publisher of the book series "Media in Science". The GMW conference proceedings for the annual specialist conference are also published in this series.

Between 1999 and 2009, GMW organized the presentation of the MEDIDA-PRIX media didactic award .
