Giorgio Demetrio Gallaro (born January 16, 1948 in Pozzallo , Sicily , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and curia archbishop .

Life

Giorgio Demetrio Gallaro was ordained a deacon in 1971 . He received on 27 May 1972, the sacrament of Holy Orders . In September 1987 he was incardinated in the clergy of the Newton Eparchy .

On March 31, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Piana degli Albanesi . He was ordained episcopal on June 28th of the same year by the Bishop of Lungro , Donato Oliverio . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Exarch of Greece , Dimitrios Salachas , and the Melkite Bishop of Newton , Nicholas James Samra .

On February 25, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches , for which he had previously worked as a consultor . At the same time the Pope granted him the personal title of archbishop ..

On July 4, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Consultor of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity .
