Giovanni Arcioni

Giovanni Arcioni (born March 2, 1827 in Corzoneso ; † December 14, 1898 ibid) was a Swiss writer.

Life

Giovanni Arcioni was the son of the farmer Guglielmo Arcioni.

As a teenager he emigrated to Tortona in Italy , worked temporarily in Paris and in 1854 went to Australia as a gold prospector . In 1861 he returned disappointed and worked again in Paris before spending his final years in his birthplace.

Giovanni Arcioni described in his diary Journal sur la mer , which he later renamed Memorie di un emigrante ticinese in Australia , his trip from Liverpool to Melbourne and his experiences as a gold prospector in Australia. He supplemented the descriptions with details from economic life, which dealt with prices, wages and accounts. The work contains over a dozen poems in Italian, French and English that deal with love and everyday occurrences.

Giovanni Arcioni was married to Luigia Galli.
