Giovanni da Udine (born October 15, 1487 in Udine in Northern Italy, † 1564 in Rome ) was an Italian Renaissance painter. In Raphael's workshop he was the specialist in grotesques and stucco work .

Life

Giovanni probably received his education in Venice. In 1516 he joined Raphael's workshop, for whom he worked until his death. He performed parts in Raphael's oil paintings and was also involved in the frescoing and stuccoing of palaces such as the Villa Farnesina in Rome. He also worked on the design of the loggias in the Vatican Palace.

His work for Raffael was occasionally interrupted by commissions in northern Italy. In 1527 and 1534 he worked as an architect and decorator for the castles of the Spilimbergo and Colloredo in Friuli and was involved in the interior design of the Palazzo Grimani in Venice.
