Giulio Antamoro

Giulio Cesare Antamoro (born July 1, 1877 in Rome , † December 8, 1945 there ) was an Italian film director .

Life

Antamoro began working as a director for the Cines in 1909 ; In his early years he shot numerous farces with the comedians Tontolini ( Ferdinand Guillaume ) and Cocò ( Pacifico Aquilanti ). In 1911 he directed the first longer film version of Pinocchio , in which Guillaume's family, who came from the circus milieu, played almost all the roles and whose editing rhythm still provides a template for film theoretical investigations, and until 1921 he made numerous silent films, often the first versions of subjects that were often filmed were; There is a Christ film in 1916 and an Ursus in 1917 in the filmography, and in 1921 there is also a Don Carlos .

The Christ film was partly shot on original locations in Egypt and Palestine and used forms of tableaux vivants . Queen Elena was present at the premiere. A preference for religious subjects can also be determined later; In addition to the aforementioned film of Christ, Antamoro shot a biography of Francis of Assisi (1927) and Antonius of Padua (1930).

Antamoro often shot with the great female silent film stars such as Francesca Bertini , Leda Gys and Diana Karenne . He co-directed the last two films in 1939 and 1943, which are his only two sound films.

His pseudonym was Gant .
