Giuseppe Bertolucci

Giuseppe Bertolucci (born February 27, 1947 in Parma , † June 16, 2012 in Diso , Province of Lecce , Apulia ) was an Italian director and screenwriter .

Career

The younger brother of Bernardo Bertolucci worked as an assistant director for this and before that for Gianni Amico and in the 1970s mostly made documentaries or for Italian television. In 1977 he worked for the first time as a director for the cinema and with Roberto Benigni on Berlinguer ti voglio bene . He remained artistically connected to him for the next few years. Bertolucci has been described as one of the most personal directors and continued to make films, albeit at longer intervals. In all of his work, he was also involved in the script.

Among Bertolucci's theatrical work, various monologues that he wrote since the 1970s stand out; he also worked as a director for the stage.

On June 18, 2002, Bertolucci received the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic . He was president of the Cineteca di Bologna .
