Glenn Monroig

Glenn Monroig (* 22. April 1957 in San Juan ) is a Puerto Rican Cantautor .

Life

Glenn Monroig is a son of the singer Gilberto Monroig , who was born in 1980 a. a. debuted with songs like Jamás te voy a abandonar así otra vez . With Mírame a los ojos , a favorite on Puerto Rican radio, he took part in the 1982 OTI Festival. In 1983 he sang No finjas , the first RAP song in Spanish. As one of the first singers he seriously dealt with the subject of homosexuality in 1984 in Me dijeron . Two years later, Por siempre , the Spanish version of Kenny Loggins ' Forever, was one of the great classics of his repertoire.

Musicians like Luis Enrique , María Conchita Alonso , Cheo Feliciano , Lucecita Benítez , Nydia Caro and Gilberto Monroig interpreted the songs of Monroig. His composition Todo depende de ti became the anthem against drugs in 1988 in the interpretation of Ednita Nazario , Danny Rivera , Yolandita Monge , Sophy , Lourdes Robles and the international quintet Menudo. His album Apasionado was in 1988 the first place of the charts. He was accompanied on recordings by pianists Alberto Favero and Jorge Dalto , saxophonist David Sanborn , drummer Buddy Williams and bassist Marcus Miller .

In 1982 Monroig founded his own record label ( Mamokú ) and recording studio and produced, among others, Casa nueva ... vida nueva with his father Gilberto Monroig, Ese soy yo with the Mexican singer Emmanuel , Devórame with the Brazilian Elba Ramalho and Yo que te adoré with Lunna . As a director and producer, he made the music video Hola (1983), and in 1986 he directed the television special Caricatura for the singer Lissette .

In 2000 Monroig gave a concert in the sold out Centro de Bellas Artes in Guaynabo, which was followed by other successful concerts (2003, 2006 and 2007). The recording A papi , dedicated to his father, was named Record Production of the Year by the Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular in 2007 . In 2012 he presented 35 songs from his repertoire in a concert in the Sala de Festivales des Centro de Bellas Artes . In the following year he accompanied his friend Carlos Vives on his tour Como le gusta a mi pueblo . In December he recorded Beethoven's Ode to Joy with the tenor Ricardo Dávila and the sopranos María Leticia Hernández and Lourdes Robles for a DVD produced annually by the Banco Popular de Puerto Rico . In 2014 he celebrated his 40th stage anniversary with the show Trayectoria Sinfónica with the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Puerto Rico .
