Gloria Artis Medal

The Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit ( Polish Medal Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis ) is the highest Polish cultural award for services to Polish culture . The medal is awarded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage . It honors persons or institutions for services to art, economy, culture or the protection of cultural and national heritage. The basis for the award is the law of October 25, 1991 on the organization and implementation of cultural activities of the Minister for Culture and National Heritage. In 2005, the medal replaced the "Merited Cultural Creator " ( Polish: Zasłużony Działacz Kultury ) award and was first awarded on June 17, 2005.

The medal has been awarded in three stages since 2005: gold , silver and bronze (on a brass body ). It is worn on a ribbon around the neck (1st step) or on the left side of the chest (2nd and 3rd step). The minister it confers on its own initiative or at the request of other ministers or certain members of parliamentary bodies or associations of organizations of civil society .

A crowned eagle is depicted on the obverse of the medal, and on the reverse the face of a woman with a laurel wreath bearing the inscription "Gloria Artis".
