The Goldburger is a white wine variety . It is a new breed of the Höhere Bundeslehranstalt and Federal Office for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Klosterneuburg (Austria) from Welschriesling and orange grapes . The crossing took place in 1922 by Friedrich Zweigelt .

Ampelographic variety characteristics

  • The shoot tip is hairy like a cobweb. The light green young leaves shimmer slightly bronze.
  • The shoot is medium strong with hanging shoots.
  • The medium-sized leaves are usually five-lobed and strongly curved and resemble those of the Welschriesling. The stem bay is open in a U-shape and usually has a bare stem bay. The leaf margin is serrated to a point.
  • The cylindrical grape is medium-sized, shouldered, dense berries and often has a bit of grapes. The round berries are small and golden yellow in color. The berries are very juicy and the berry skin is dotted with yellow.

Maturity: medium late

properties

The variety has no special requirements in terms of location and location, but is characterized by good fungus resistance. It is mainly used where the Welschriesling no longer comes to full maturity. The variety is sensitive to winter and late frost.

distribution

The vine is only grown in Austria . The area under vines is decreasing. In 2009 around 150 ha were planted with this variety, in 2015 only 97 ha were left.

Wine

The wines are neutral in smell and taste, but full-bodied, rich in extracts and fruity.
