List of grape varieties

The Goldriesling , also called Gelbriesling , Goldmuskat , is a white wine variety that is only planted to a significant extent in Saxon viticulture .

ancestry

The origin of this grape variety is in Alsace , where it was created in 1893 by Christian Oberlin in Colmar from the crossing of the Riesling and Early Malingre varieties . The breeder's original information that it was a cross of Riesling and Courtillier Musqué Précoce has since been refuted by a DNA analysis in 2007. The variety was only included in the list of varieties in 1995 . Due to the good properties of this grape variety, it is still used today in new varieties . In the older breeds Lucie Kuhlmann , Léon Millot and Maréchal Foch , she also served as a cross partner.

properties

Since the variety sprouts late in spring and can still be harvested early, it is particularly suitable for peripheral locations such as in Saxon viticulture. So the late frost in spring can do little to harm her.

Wine

Gold Riesling is noticeable for its light, yellowish color. The bouquet is spicy with a slight note of nutmeg. The mostly light but characterful wines of this grape variety are good accompaniments to meals, are suitable as a base wine for a summer punch or, thanks to their strong acidity , for a spritzer .

distribution

First grown in Saxony in 1913 , this variety is almost only found here. The area under vines is about 21 hectares . However, the variety is also approved in the wine-growing regions of Franconia , Ahr , Middle Rhine , Moselle , Nahe , Pfalz and Rheinhessen .
