Gonzalo Alejandro Jara Reyes (born August 29, 1985 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean football player . He is active for Mazatlán FC .

Career

society

Jara began his professional career in 2003 with the Chilean club CD Huachipato , for which he played 69 games in three years and scored two goals. In 2007 he moved to CSD Colo-Colo and developed into a regular player. In two seasons, the defensive player completed 64 games in which he scored one goal.

In 2009 he moved to the English club West Bromwich Albion for 1.4 million pounds . He signed a three-year contract. He made his debut in the Premier League on September 26, 2009 in the 0-1 loss to Crystal Palace . He scored his first goal almost two months later on November 7th in a 2-1 away win over Leicester City . At the end of the 2009/10 season he had played 22 games and scored one goal.

In October 2011 he was loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion until January 2012 . However, the loan deal was terminated early on December 20, 2011, as West Bromwich had a large number of injured players. He returned to Brighton & Hove Albion on January 31, 2012 on loan and stayed there until the end of the season. On January 10, 2013 Jara moved on loan to the second division club Nottingham Forest . After playing 17 league games there, he signed a one-year contract on June 19.

In July 2014, Jara was signed free of charge by the German Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 . He signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year. He made his debut on July 31, 2014 in a 1-0 win in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League against Asteras Tripoli . On August 15, 2014, Jara was the only Mainz player to miss his penalty in the first round match in the DFB Cup against third division club Chemnitzer FC , which led to the elimination of 1. FSV Mainz 05. On August 24, 2014, Jara made his debut in the Bundesliga when he came on as a substitute for Nikolče Noveski in the 2-2 on matchday one in the game against newly promoted SC Paderborn in the 52nd minute .

In January 2016, the contract with Mainz 05 was terminated at Jara's request. He then joined the CF Universidad de Chile .

After three years there, he had played 58 games in which he could not score. Then he moved to Estudiantes de la Plata and a year later to Monarcas Morelia .

After the transfer of the Monarcas franchise to the newly formed Mazatlán FC after the 2019/20 season , Jara was among the debut eleven in the history of the club from the port city of Mazatlán .

National team

In 2005, Jara took part with the Chilean U-20 team in the U-20 South American Football Championship in Colombia and reached fourth place with his team, which entitles them to take part in the 2005 Junior World Cup in the Netherlands. There, the team started with a 7: 7 defeat to the Spanish youth in their second group game after 45 minutes with a 0-opening win over Honduras, to which he contributed with a goal, however, was in the 0 red yellow card sent off . Despite a 1-0 defeat in the last group match against Morocco, the Chilean team qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams for the round of 16, in which they lost 3-0 to the hosts and were eliminated. Jara is counted as one of the three outstanding players of his team in the official tournament report and is described as a “defensive organizer (Libero) with good duel behavior” who “quickly initiates counterattacks”.

In 2006 he completed his first two senior internationals for Chile . On April 26 and 27, he played in two friendly matches against New Zealand . The games ended 4-1 and 1-0 for Chile. During the European tour in 2006 he played games against Ireland and Sweden . At the Copa America 2007 in Venezuela , he played two games, including a 6-1 win in the quarter-finals against Brazil.

In May 2008, he took part with the U-23 national team as team captain at the Toulon tournament. After a 5-3 win over France and two 2-0 victories over the Netherlands and Japan, they beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in the semi-finals. He missed this due to a yellow card suspension. The final was lost to Italy 0-1. Less than a month later, he scored his first international goal against Venezuela .

After 13 games in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and two goals scored, he was part of the Chilean squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . Jara took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Chile played a strong tournament and came in second in a group with world champions Spain and the Netherlands. In the round of 16 against Brazil in Belo Horizonte on June 28, 2014, Chile failed on penalties. Jara had initially scored an own goal and missed the decisive penalty in the penalty shoot-out.

In the quarter-finals of the Copa America 2015 against Uruguay, Jara provoked a dismissal for Edinson Cavani by touching him by the buttocks. He was subsequently banned from the South American association CONMEBOL for three games, after an objection, reduced to two games, and thus for the semifinals and the final , for his assault that was not noticed by the referee .
