Gordon Gottlieb (born October 23, 1948 in New York City ) is an American percussionist and conductor who has emerged in both classical and fusion music.

Gottlieb, whose brother is the pianist Jay Gottlieb, received his first lessons as a percussionist from James Wimer. He then studied up to his master's degree at the Juilliard School with Saul Goodman , Elden Bailey and Morris Goldenberg and attended courses with Cloyd Duff at the Aspen Music Festival .

Gottlieb has worked as a solo percussionist and timpanist for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra since 1970 and has also performed with numerous international orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra , the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra . As an interpreter of New Music, Gottlieb has performed with the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble , the Juilliard Ensemble , Speculum Musicae and the Group for Contemporary Music , recorded Béla Bartók's Sonata for two pianos and percussion with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and was under Robert Craft involved in recordings of works by Igor Stravinsky . He was a soloist in Pierre Boulez ' concert series and formed a duo with his brother Jay, which commissioned compositions for works for piano and percussion; he also made recordings with Philip Glass .

Gottlieb is also active in the field of fusion jazz.
