Gospershausen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gospershausen is a submerged village in what is now Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Gospershausen belonged to the parish of Elsoff .

location

The place was northeast of Elsoff in the Mennerbachtal, towards Hainhof, at the confluence of the Äpfelbach in the Mennerbach. The settlement still exists under the field name Kirchenstump .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the year 1059. The noble landlord Buobo von Elsoff carried out the separation from the Raumländischen mother church in this year . In order to be able to hold mass, baptism and the intercession of the deceased in Elsoff, he transferred part of his lands to the church in Raumland. The localities Schwarzenau , Beddelhausen , Elsoff and Alertshausen appear in the corresponding document . The villages of Breitendelle , Oberruhn and Leinfe, which became desolate in the 14th century, can also be found . The downfall of the village took place in the Thirty Years War . In 1636 the plague raged again in the country. The epidemic killed almost all of the residents of Gospershausen. The dead were buried in Elsoff in the immediate vicinity of the church . There the dead were buried in a mass grave right next to the building wall due to the lack of space and the large number. The place was not repopulated.
