Gräveneck is a district of the municipality Weinbach in the central Hessian district Limburg-Weilburg .

Geographical location

Gräveneck is located in the Weilburger Lahntal area , with the Eastern Hintertaunus joining a little to the southeast. It is located in the northwest of the Taunus Nature Park , around 2.8 km northwest of the main town. The Lahn flows west of the village . State road  3452 leads through it .

history

Neu-Elkerhausen Castle was built as early as 1352 . The village was first mentioned in documents in 1395.

Only remains of the Steuerburg (destroyed in 1382) and Gräveneck Castle are preserved.

The municipality of Gräveneck in the former Oberlahnkreis merged voluntarily as part of the regional reform in Hesse on December 1, 1970 with the independent municipalities of Weinbach , Freienfels and Blessenbach to form the new large municipality of Weinbach. Weinbach was designated as the seat of the municipal administration.

Facilities

Since 1934, the Gräveneck volunteer fire brigade (from August 1, 1994 with the youth fire brigade) has provided fire protection and general help in this area. There is a village community center on Taunusstrasse, a sports field, the “Rappelkiste” kindergarten, a children's playground and a Protestant and a Catholic church.

  • The Lahntalbahn runs past the village and has a train station on the route. There is one of the last mechanically barred level crossings in Hessen. For her report Zug um Zug - The daily chaos in rail traffic (December 2019), ARD reporter Jessica Sander visited the level crossing.
  • There is a campsite on the Lahn .
  • There are hiking trails.
