The Grønlands Kommando ( GLK ) comprised the Danish armed forces on the island of Greenland from August 1, 1959 to October 31, 2012 . It was subordinate to the defense command and went together with the Færøernes command in the Arktisk command . The last head of the command was Rear Admiral Henrik Bunde Kudsk .

tasks

In the case of peace, the task of the command was to monitor Greenland and the surrounding waters. In addition, the command was also responsible for fisheries control , search and rescue services, police assistance, customs administration and the fight against marine pollution and much more. The command's fisheries inspectorate ensured that the fishing boats that fished in the Greenland sector complied with local laws and regulations. This included inspecting the catches of ships, fishing gear and shipyards. In 2004, 94 inspections were carried out, which led to 34 convictions or prosecutions.

structure

In Grønlands Kommando, which had Myndigheds level II, 60 soldiers from the army , navy and air force served ; the headquarters were at the Grønnedal naval station in Kangilinnguit . The command had an inspection ship and helicopter that could operate in the Greenland fishing territory. In addition, two inspection ships of the Knud Rasmussen class and the inspection cutter Tulugaq were included. The Sirius sled patrol with headquarters in Daneborg ensures the surveillance and sovereignty of the north and east coasts as well as the national park of north and east Greenland. In the national park, the patrol has police force.

The station north outpost was with fewer units on site. Their job was to monitor the runway in support of the defense operations in northeastern Greenland.
