The Gründelsloch is a karst spring in the Hainleite in Thuringia .

geography

The Gründelsloch is located a little west of Kindelbrück near the river bed of the Wipper , a tributary of the Unstrut . The path to the source leads through a small park. This is in a small wood. The Gründelsbach rises from here and feeds a salmon rearing pond and flows into the Wipper at the eastern end of the city.

geology

The karst spring was created on March 3, 1611 by a sinkhole in the course of the geological fault zone Kindelbrück – Hachelbich. By seeping in between Kapellmühle Seega and Günserode in the ground water flow formed over centuries Klüftungen in soft Keuper rocks which become unstable by the flowing waters and are recognizable as Tagbruch or sinkhole. The karst spring pours out 260 liters of water per second. It is an almost circular spring pot, which has a beautiful, deep blue color due to the high gypsum content. It has a diameter of about 22 meters; one assumes an original depth of the basin of 9 to 12 meters. The reason was explored by GST divers in the 1970s. In the middle of the bottom there are several labyrinth openings with enormous amounts of water. From the high lime content of the water (71 hardness) it can be concluded that it must have covered a long underground route through deep lime sediment.
