Graisse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Graisse is an old white grape variety that is grown in the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in south-west France . It is in the department Gers , Haute-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne for commercial viticulture approved, but is rarely used. In 1998, a planted vineyard area of less than 30 hectares was raised after in 1958 2,755 hectares were still under yield. In Sud-Ouest the variety is often used in mixed sentences .

The white wines are light, very simple and have a strong acidity . The grape variety plays a subordinate role in the production of Armagnac . While the variety is no longer grown in Tunisia , smaller stocks are known in Algeria .

No clones have yet been released for viticulture.

A study published in 2007 suggests that the grape variety Graisse is genetically closely related to a number of local varieties in the Sud-Ouest region and forms a grape family with them (e.g. Blancard , Claverie , Claverie coulard , Cruchen faux , Cruixen and crouchen ). It comes from the old Gouais Blanc grape variety . The other parent is currently unknown.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white, with a carmine-red tinge. The yellowish young leaves are also woolly hairy.
  • The large leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are moderately five-lobed. The stalk bay is closed lyren-shaped. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. The large teeth are closely set compared to other grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and coarse in the area of the stalk bay.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is large, shouldered and dense berries. The round or slightly elliptical berries are medium-sized. They are whitish-yellow in color when fully ripe.

The Graisse grape variety ripens around 30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late for a grape variety internationally. The variety is considered to be vigorous.
