Gregory "Greg" Moore (born March 26, 1984 in Lisbon , Maine ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach who was last under contract until 2015 with the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Greg Moore began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active from 2000 to 2002 in the junior leagues of the North American Hockey League and the United States Hockey League . He then attended the University of Maine for four years , for whose ice hockey team he was also active in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the team he won the 2004 championship of the College League Hockey East . During his university years he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the fifth round as a total of 143 players by the Calgary Flames , for which he never played. Instead, he ran from 2006 to 2009 for the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League . In the 2007/08 season he also played six games for their partner New York Rangers in the National Hockey League .

Moore spent most of the 2009/10 season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. Shortly before the end of the season he was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets from the NHL, for which he played another four NHL missions, but was also there mainly for the AHL farm team Syracuse Crunch for use. The US-American began the 2010/11 season with the Adirondack Phantoms in the AHL and ended it with their league rivals Springfield Falcons . For the 2011/12 season , the two-time junior world champion was signed by the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League .

For the 2012/13 season, the brawny two-way striker moved to Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg , where his contract was extended early on until the end of the 2013/14 season. In the second game of the 2013/14 season against ERC Ingolstadt , Moore was seriously injured by a gang check by Tim Conboy that was not punished during the game and suffered a cruciate ligament rupture. Therefore, he fell out until the end of the season and then moved to the Piráti Chomutov in the second Czech division . After 16 games there, Moore returned to the DEL in November 2014 and played again for the Augsburg Panthers until the end of the 2014/15 season . Following this season, Moore ended his playing career.

International

For the USA Moore took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2002 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2003 and 2004 . At the U18 World Cup in 2002 and the U20 World Cup in 2004, he and his team won the world championship title.

Coaching career

After his active playing career, Moore was initially assistant coach for various youth national teams for the US Ice Hockey Federation for three seasons. In the 2018/19 season he was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Steel team in the United States Hockey League .
