Gregory Carl "Ray J" Johnson (born July 30, 1954 in Seattle , Washington , USA ) is a former American astronaut . He is not to be confused with his colleague Gregory Harold Johnson .

Start of career

Johnson is a captain in the US Navy Reserve. He studied aerospace engineering at the University of Washington and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1977 .

NASA

Johnson was in 1990 at the Johnson Space Center of NASA has been set as a research pilot. He tried in vain to get into the 12th astronaut group.

In 1998, however, he was elected to NASA's 17th astronaut group and trained as a space shuttle pilot.

Johnson was a pilot of the STS-125 mission , which took off on May 11, 2009 for the final maintenance flight of the Hubble Space Telescope . The landing took place on May 24, 2009 at Edwards Air Force Base .

Johnson left NASA in August 2018.

Private

Gregory Johnson is divorced and has two children. His hobbies are jogging and cycling.
