description

The Große Schillerteich is a local recreation area, the bank area of which is used for events, for example for the children's festival "Air Jumps", which usually takes place every two years and in June 2015 had over 25,000 visitors. The lake shore is designed like a park. There is a walkway around the lake.

The "Schillermühle" was located on the north bank from around 1600. It was demolished in 1971.

From March 21 to April 16, 2020, the green spaces around the Großer Schillerteich were closed to visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany .

The "Kleine Schillerteich" is located around 500 meters south. Together with the Großer Schillerteich, it forms the largest rain retention basin in the city. To the south there are three other ponds: Krummer Teich, Frauenteich and Ziegelteich.
