Grand Mufti of Egypt

Grand Mufti of Egypt ( Arabic مفتي الديار المصرية) is a high traditional religious office in Egypt. He heads the legal advisory committee of the Center for Islamic Legal Issues ( Fatwa ), the House of Fatwa ( Arabic دار الإفتاء المصرية/ Dār al-Iftā 'al-Miṣrīya), which was founded in 1895 . The office is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice.

Along with the Azhar (see Sheikh der Azhar ), it is the most important Islamic institution in Egypt. The Egyptian Grand Mufti Schawki Ibrahim Allam has been in office as the successor to Ali Gomaa since 2013 .

Ahmed el-Tayeb , the current Sheikh al-Azhar, was Grand Mufti of Egypt from 2002 to 2003.
