Gros-Réderching ( Lorraine. Gross-Rederschinge , German Großrederchingen , 1940-44 Großredingen ) is a French commune with 1,333 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Sarreguemines and the Canton of Bitche .
geography
The Singling district belongs to Gros-Réderching . Neighboring communities are Bliesbruck in the north, Obergailbach in the northeast, Rimling and Bettwiller in the east, Rohrbach-lès-Bitche in the southeast, Bining in the south, Achen in the southwest and Wœlfling-lès-Sarreguemines in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1304 as Ruderchingen , then Rederchingen (1322), Röderichingen (1550), and Riderchingen (1594). From 1790 to 2014 Gros-Réderching belonged to the canton of Rohrbach-lès-Bitche , which no longer existed , and since then has been part of the canton of Bitche. From 1871 to 1920 and from 1940 to 1944 there was no further subdivision of the Saargemünd district at that time .
During the German occupation in World War II, the place was called Großredingen. In November 1944 troops of the 7th US Army and the 2nd French Armored Division (Major General Leclerc ) liberated neighboring areas; the place itself was liberated on December 10, 1944, practically without a fight. On January 3, 1945, Wehrmacht troops briefly conquered the town as part of the Nordwind company .
