Gstaad [ kʃtaːd̥ ] is a village ( Bäuert ) in the Bernese Oberland . It is located at 1050 m above sea level. M. and belongs to the municipality of Saanen in Switzerland .
Village
The village center has been a car-free zone since 1998 . There are numerous exclusive shops, restaurants and hotels on the promenade created by the bypass. All houses are built in the chalet style, which gives the place a special charm. Numerous celebrities spend their holidays here.
Events
Gstaad is home to several regularly organized sports competitions: the international men's tennis tournament Crédit Agricole Suisse Open , the beach volleyball grand slam tournament FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour , the polo tournament Hublot Polo Gold Cup and the Gstaad Winter Games . The 2007 beach volleyball world championship also took place in Gstaad .
The church concert founded by Yehudi Menuhin in 1957 in the Mauritius church in Saanen became the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy. In summer it is one of the oldest and most renowned classical music festivals. In winter, the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad offer classical concerts. The Country Night Festival takes place in Gstaad in September .
During the Davidoff Saveurs Festival in late summer, star chefs from all over the world visit Saanenland.

Gstaad belongs to the municipality of Saanen and is the main tourist town in Saanenland . Many celebrities of the jet set spend their holidays here, such as Bernie Ecclestone , and in the past Roger Moore , Tony Curtis , Gunter Sachs , Curd Jürgens , Richard Burton , Elizabeth Taylor , Princess Gracia Patricia , Yehudi Menuhin and Axel Springer . Compared to fashionable places like Zermatt or St. Moritz , they appreciate the quiet and especially the absence of autograph hunters. But Gstaad is not just a posh vacation spot. There are also inexpensive hotels and restaurants in Gstaad and the surrounding villages of Saanen, Schönried and Saanenmöser.
Gstaad is a holiday destination both in winter and in summer. In Gstaad itself there are the ski areas Wispile, Eggli-Saanen-Chalberhöni-Videmanette and Wasserngrat, and in the immediate vicinity are the Saanenmöser, Schönried, Zweisimmen , Gsteig , Lauenen and Les Diablerets / Alpes Vaudoises .
