The Guadalupe River is a 370 km long river in the US state of Texas .
It flows from Kerr County to San Antonio Bay and into the Gulf of Mexico . The river is used for rafting and canoeing . Major cities along the river are New Braunfels , Kerrville , Seguin , Gonzales , Cuero, and Victoria .
The Guadalupe River is dammed by several dams. The most famous of these is Canyon Dam , which dams the river northwest of New Braunfels to Canyon Lake .
River course
The upper reaches of the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country , is a small fast flowing water with limestone banks , that of Pecannussbäumen and Real bald cypress lined. The actual river is created by the confluence of the two main spring arms, the North Fork and the South Fork Guadalupe River .
The upper section of the river is popular for tubing in the spring and summer months . People are drifting down the river with inflated rubber tubes .
East of Boerne , on the border between Kendall Counties and Comal Counties , the river flows through the Guadalupe River State Park , one of the most popular tubing routes along the river.
The lower course of the river begins at the outflow from Canyon Lake near New Braunfels. This section between Canyon Dam and New Braunfels is most used by those seeking relaxation. There are white-water activities for rafting, canoeing, kayaking and tubing possible.
The flow rates of the river vary greatly. They depend on the seasons as well as on precipitation events in the area.
The Comal River flows into the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels. About 3 km west of Gonzales, the San Marcos River meets the Guadalupe River.
The San Antonio River reaches the Guadalupe River just north of Tivoli . Before the Guadalupe River flows into the estuary of San Antonio Bay , it forms a river delta and splits into two arms, the North and South Guadalupe Rivers . Both arms flow into Guadalupe Bay and San Antonio Bay.
