Guaia Guaia is a music group consisting of the Neubrandenburg street musicians Elias Gottstein (* August 1989 in Neubrandenburg) and Carl Luis Zielke (* August 1989 in Neubrandenburg). The film Unplugged: Leben Guaia Guaia by director Sobo Swobodnik about her music and her life as a homeless person won the audience award at the Munich Film Festival in 2012. In autumn 2012 the two musicians signed a record deal with Universal Music Germany.

Life

After the 10th grade at a grammar school in Neubrandenburg , they dropped out of school and they moved to Frankfurt am Main . In May 2010, the two decided to give up their apartment and pursue their music as street musicians, now without a permanent residence. The group met in 2009 in the panopticon in Kassel in water days in favor of Viva con Agua , 2010 at the Peace Festival in Berlin and at the Disco Festival in Kassel, 2011. Fête de la Musique in Berlin-Kreuzberg and the Festival Rhein Fire in Odonien in Cologne and in 2012 at Film Festival Munich on. In September 2013 they took part in Stefan Raab's Bundesvision Song Contest for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. There they could only achieve the last place with the title Terrorist .

Naming

The duo's name is possibly derived from a rare species of crab , the guaia-açu (Menippe Nodi) , which is found mainly in Florida , southern Brazil and the coasts of Africa.

Movie

For two years the two musicians were accompanied by a film team led by director Sobo Swobodnik. The documentary Unplugged: Leben Guaia Guaia premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2012 and won the Bavarian Radio Audience Award. The film, which was released in July 2013, focuses not only on their music and life on the street, but also on the associated feeling of freedom.

Elias Gottstein has released four albums so far. He made his debut as a solo artist on April 24, 2015 with "What should my heart beat for?" In 2018 he released three albums that were only released digitally: "VR_lust" on January 11th, "Blut im Internet" on January 25th and "Backend" on February 8th. They appeared on the label "Fratzen Berlin". In 2016 he released the song "Sexarbeiterin" with Ines Theileis & Lena Morgenroth, which is part of the soundtrack of the film of the same name by Sobo Swobodnik.
