The Guggihütte of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) is located at 2791 m above sea level. M. Height below the Mönch in the Bernese Alps . It was opened on August 7, 1910, is located in the Lauterbrunnen area and belongs to the Interlaken section .
From the beginning / middle of June to the end of September, the hut is manned on the weekends, otherwise open all year round and has 24 beds. It is named after below the Jungfraujoch lying Guggigletscher , at the northeast side it stands.
Approach
Access is via hiking trails, either from the Kleine Scheidegg or from the Eigergletscher station of the Jungfrau Railway . From the moraine of the Eiger Glacier, it is a mountain trail of difficulty level T4 , although it is sometimes also classified as T5 on relevant websites. First of all a stream has to be crossed, which depending on the snowmelt can carry a lot of water. On the further way, several short but steep rocky areas have to be overcome. In winter, access is reserved for very experienced alpinists.
Old Guggihütte
At 2380 meters above sea level, just above a ledge, a path branches to south west and leads to the old Guggihuette (coordinates: 640604 / 157260 ). This was in operation from 1874 to 1893 and was never popular with mountaineers. The visitors complained that it was damp and icy until the summer months. The hut was removed from the registers as early as 1889.
