Guido Alpa

Piero Guido Alpa (born November 26, 1947 in Ovada ) is an Italian legal scholar and president of the Italian Bar Association.

Life

He graduated from the University of Genoa in 1970 . He was “procuratore legale” for six years (in 1997 the “ legal concept ” was abolished). After this preparation for avvocado , it was approved in Genoa in 1980. He has been admitted to the Italian Court of Cassation since 1984 . In 1980 he became a full professor at the University of Genoa and in 1991 was appointed to the Sapienza University of Rome . He has lectured at universities in Germany and abroad: Oregon (1977, 1979, 1985), Berkeley (1979), London (summer 1982), Mannheim (1984), Trient (1985), Coimbra (1986), Barcelona (1989) ; Granada (1990). Alpa is one of the most famous Italian legal scholars and enjoys an international reputation: in 1998 he was appointed Master of the Bench at Gray's Inn and since 2004 he has been a member of the British Academy . In 2001 he became Vice President and in 2004 President of the "Consiglio nazionale Forense", the Italian Bar Association . Alpa has been a member of many state commissions. In 2005, for example, he was chairman of the state commission for the codification of European consumer protection directives, the "Codice del consumo".

His handbook on Italian private law, the "Alpa" ("L'Alpa"), is (alongside the books by Torrente, Galgano, Trabucchie) a well-known book for exam preparation.

Honors

He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1996 by the Complutense University of Madrid , in 2007 by the University of Lima and in 2008 by the University of Buenos Aires . He is a holder of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Grand Cross). Alpa is a knight of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher and Commander Knight of the Order of Gregory .
