Gunter Funk (born November 1, 1949 ) is a former German handball player and today's handball trainer.

Career as a handball player

Gunter Funk played in his active career at SC DHfK Leipzig and at Motor Eisenach in the GDR league .

Career as a handball coach

After his playing career, he was assistant coach of the GDR men's national handball team , and from 1982 to 1987 junior coach at SC Leipzig . From 1987 to 1991 Gunter Funk was head coach at SC Dynamo Berlin (later 1. SC Berlin and HC Preußen Berlin). With the Berliners he won the GDR championship in 1990. At the beginning of the 1991/92 season he moved to HSV Suhl , later he was with TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke , HSC Bad Neustadt , SG Hessen Hersfeld (women), SV Berliner VG 49 , HC Neuruppin , the second team of Füchse Berlin and then until March 2010 worked as a trainer at HSV Bad Blankenburg . After initially signing a contract with Ludwigsfelder HC , he switched to HC Empor Rostock in the summer of 2010 , where he worked as an assistant coach and from September 2010 as a coach. From the 2012/2013 season, Gunter Funk took over the coaching position at HC Aschersleben in the 3rd League East. There he was released on November 22, 2012. In October 2013 he took over as coach in which the handball league Baltic Spree gambling HSV Peenetal Loitz . In April 2014 he was released from the club.

One of his successes as a coach was his promotion to the regional league in 2008 with the second team of Füchse Berlin after a season with no loss points.
