Gunther Bastert

Gunther Bastert (born June 23, 1939 in the Azores ) is a German gynecologist , obstetrician and oncologist .

Life

Gunther Bastert studied medicine at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1969 he was there with the dissertation "On the clinic of mononucleosis infektiosa" doctorate . In 1976 he was also in Frankfurt with the writing "human xenograft tumors, preferably breast cancer, on thymusaplastische nu-nu mice" habilitation . The work was awarded as the best habilitation thesis of the Frankfurt Medical Faculty of 1977. In 1983 he was made an honorary professor.

In 1984 Bastert moved from Frankfurt to the University Hospital of Saarland Homburg , where he was appointed professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Saarland University and was director of the University Women's Clinic until 1987.

1987 Bastert accepted an appointment as full professor for gynecology and obstetrics on the chair at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg as the successor of Fred Kubli (1930-1987). He was Managing Director of the University Women's Clinic until the end of October 2004 and was Dean of the Medical Faculty I in Heidelberg for two years (1992–1993). Christof Sohn (* 1961) was appointed his successor in November 2004 .

Bastert took over in 2005 with 65 years, the head of the Oncology Clinic Bad Trissl in Oberaudorf , succeeding Serban Dan Costa (* 1955) after it as professor at the University Hospital of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg had been called.

In September 2009 Bastert joined a practice specializing in gynecological ecology in Mannheim .

Gunther Bastert has been married since 1968. The marriage resulted in four children.

Bastert was a founding member, secretary (1981–1984) and chairman of the Gynecological Oncology Working Group (AGO) of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics for several years .

The German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics awards the Gunther Bastert Prize for innovative achievements in the field of gynecological oncology. The prize, worth 8,000 euros, is sponsored by Novartis Oncology .
