Gustav Roger Opočenský
Gustav Roger Opočenský (born April 12, 1881 in Krouna near Skuteč , † September 4, 1949 in Prague ) was a Czech writer .

Opočenský came from a Protestant pastor family. He wrote novels, short stories, poetry, humor and reports. In his prose he often portrayed the life of ordinary people in Bohemia and Moravia with a socially critical tone , stylistically influenced by Machar . He also wrote numerous song and chanson texts.
Opočenský was a childhood friend of the writer Jaroslav Hašek and was considered his most loyal friend. Before the First World War he was a member of his parodistic party for moderate progress within the limits of the law . Opočenský collection of anecdotes Čtvrt století s Jaroslavem Haškem is one of the most famous books about the humorist. Hašek, in turn, immortalized Opočenský in his chronicle The Party of Moderate Progress within the Limits of Law.
Gustav R. Opočenský was the father of the Czech actor Gustav Opočenský (1920–1992) and the grandfather of the rock musician Petr Opočenský (* 1950) and the sculptor Pavel Opočenský (* 1954).
