Gwendolyn von Ambesser , actually Gwendolyn von Oesterreich , (born June 4, 1949 in Munich ) is a German actress , director and author .

Life

The daughter of the actor, director and author Axel von Ambesser (actually Axel von Oesterreich) and the actress Inge von Oesterreich-Ambesser (née Flemming) completed an acting training with Hanna Burgwitz and Ernst Fritz Fürbringer and made her debut as a stage actress in 1967 in Aachen . Engagements followed a. in Hamburg , Munich, Karlsruhe , Bonn , Frankfurt am Main , Bad Hersfeld and for various theater tours. She also worked as an assistant director at theaters in Vienna , Zurich, Munich and Berlin .

Since the late 1960s she has also played roles in film and television productions, such as in literary adaptations One Long Day Journey into the Night according to Eugene O'Neill , the second part of the television saga Heimat of Edgar Reitz , directed by her father in Encounter in Autumn , Children's programs like Sesame Street , thrillers like Police Radio calls and family series like Die Schnell Gerdi (with Senta Berger ) or Der Landarzt .

Her first book The rats enter the sinking ship about the absurd life and emigration story of the Jewish actor Leo Reuss (1891-1946) was published in 2005. The foreword to the book was written by the actor and author Mario Adorf .

In April 2011, a biography of her father, written by her, was published under the title Actors you don't touch! With this sentence her grandfather tried to dissuade his son from going to the theater.

At the moment Gwendolyn von Ambesser works mainly as a director. She is senior stage director at the Chambinzky Theater in her current home town of Würzburg .
