history

Foundation and planning of the building

The Heißen grammar school was founded in 1975 as a result of increasing registrations at Mülheim grammar schools. The first three classes started school in the 1975/76 school year in the primary school building on Nordstrasse. Under the direction of the architect Aribert Riege , the concept for the new high school was presented in February 1976. This should be attached to the building of the secondary school, which was built 10 years ago. It should consist of at least two flat towers, which should be connected by a large break hall, and could optionally be extended by an upper-level tower, since the school was originally only founded as a secondary school.

The construction of the school grounds

Construction began in December 1975, and by November 1977 had progressed so far that the college could be guided through the shell. At the beginning of the 1978/79 school year, the school was able to move into the finished building. The official handover took place on October 27, 1978. In the same year, the planning for the upper level tower was carried out so that there should also be space for an upper level in the building. There had previously been intense discussions about this in the city council; the CDU parliamentary group applied for an upper level, while the SPD parliamentary group wanted to wait for the population to develop in the Heißen district . Construction of the triple gym also began in 1978 and was completed at the end of October 1980.
