The high school Verl is a secondary school in the East Westphalian city of Verl in North Rhine-Westphalia , which is also the sponsor of the school. history

After the decision to build a grammar school in Verl in 1974, the new building built for this purpose was moved into in 1977. In August 1977 the school year began for the first year, which consisted of 88 students and was taught by nine teachers. In the 1979/80 school year, the second phase of construction of the high school in Verl was completed, and four years later the upper level wing. In 1986 the first class of high school graduates left school. Computer rooms were added in 1993 and a new section of the building in 1999.

2012 began a two-year renovation of the high school in Verl; From March 4, 2014, the students were taught in the completed new building. In the 2013/2014 school year, a little more than 1,000 students attended grammar school in eight years. In addition to the redesign of the building, an extension was added to the east.

From 2015 the high school in Verl started the project to become a UNESCO project school. After the high school already had the status of an interested school, it received the status of a cooperating school. There are a total of 300 UNESCO project schools with three different statuses in Germany. In 2019 the school decided to return to G9 .

Buildings and art

The building of the high school in Verl has two to three floors and has a flat roof. Cubic parts of the building are staggered around an atrium. Together with the two other secondary schools in Verl and a primary school, the grammar school forms the Konrad Adenauer school center. Since 2009, the school center has also had a cafeteria .

To the east, the Kühlmannplatz adjoins the grammar school. The Tree of Life has been there since 1986 , a sculpture by the sculptor Bruno Buschmann, which is intended to commemorate Pastor Ferdinand Kühlmann (1871–1926). In the school there is a Foucault pendulum with 10 meters, which was installed in the foyer before the renovation . The pendulum has been hanging in the break hall since 2015. On the floor, the 30 kg ball swings over a surface on which light-emitting diodes indicate the rotation progress.
