ICD-10 online (WHO version 2019)

A hematomaetra ( ancient Greek αἷμα haima , German 'blood' and μήτρα metra , German 'uterus' ) means that the uterus is filled with blood (in humans mostly through menstruation ). If the vagina is also filled with blood, this is called a hematomaetrocolpos (κόλπος kolpos 'vagina'). If only the vagina is affected, one speaks of a hematocolpos . The term hemometra is mostly used in animals .

root cause

It is based on the occlusion of the vagina by hymeneal atresia or, more rarely, a vaginal membrane, a form of gynatresia .

There is an association with Robinow syndrome , the uterus didelphys, or duplicates of the vagina and / or uterus.

diagnosis

This widening can be palpable or even visible as a tumor in the lower abdomen. A backwater up to the fallopian tube is possible, so-called hematosalpinx .

The diagnosis is usually made by means of an ultrasound examination .

Differential diagnosis

Other (bleeding) masses of the lower abdomen are to be distinguished .

therapy

Treatment consists of surgical transection of the hymen or the obstructing membrane.
