Higher business school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The higher commercial school is the name for a typical course of education at a higher vocational school at vocational schools, vocational colleges ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) and business schools in Germany. In Saarland , this course was abolished because much of the content of the higher commercial school would be repeated in a later commercial training course for the graduates .

The prerequisite for admission is the intermediate school leaving certificate . In some federal states, the higher commercial school can also be attended after completing vocational training (e.g. in Hamburg or in North Rhine-Westphalia). The middle school leaving certificate can be obtained, for example, at the commercial school .

The aim of the higher commercial school is to prepare students for all professions in business and administration . It can last for one or two years, with two years at the end of grade 12, the school-based part of the advanced technical college entrance qualification is acquired. For this purpose, a written final examination in the subjects German, mathematics, English and, depending on the school, in business administration with accounting or information science must be successfully passed. Furthermore, after the 12th grade, if certain requirements are met, the “extended professional knowledge” (EBK) is certified, which is an advantage for the students B. fail to pass the final exam on the second attempt. However, there are no higher education entitlements associated with the SFBC certificate.

In order to obtain the complete technical college entrance qualification (which is required for attending a technical college), after acquiring the school component, either vocational training is required or - depending on the federal state - a year-round or six - month guided internship is required. Under certain circumstances, military and civil service periods can also be recognized if these correspond to the specialist focus. Whether or not you have to take exams varies from state to state.

After leaving grade 11, basic professional knowledge in the commercial area will be certified. With the successful completion of the higher commercial school, a subsequent commercial training can be shortened by half a year or a full year; However, this depends on the training company . This gives you a greater chance of getting a training position.

Higher commercial school in North Rhine-Westphalia

In North Rhine-Westphalia , pupils who have obtained the secondary school leaving certificate (FOR) at a secondary school , a secondary school (10B) or a comprehensive school or the transfer certificate to grade 11 at a grammar school can attend the two-year higher commercial school.

Pupils who have a university entrance qualification ( general university entrance qualification or technical college entrance qualification ) can acquire advanced professional knowledge in the field of economics and administration in one year at the Höhere Handelsschule für Abitur graduates. The lessons take place at a vocational college with a commercial focus.

Before 2006 , so-called entrance tests were carried out at some schools before starting school at the higher commercial school in order to check the suitability of the respective student for the course. These ceased to exist in 2006 with the widespread introduction of the central final examinations to obtain the technical college entrance qualification .

Grade 11 (lower level)

In the lower level (1st year) of the higher commercial school, basic commercial knowledge is imparted. In addition, the focus is increasingly on general education subjects. The students in the lower grades have a natural science subject ( physics , biology or chemistry ).

The classes are divided according to the foreign language , whereby the offer depends on the possibilities of the school. As a rule, Spanish or French are taught , and less often Russian or Italian . Since a second foreign language is not absolutely necessary for the advanced technical college entrance qualification, the students also get the opportunity to leave out the second foreign language and instead have more English lessons or applied IT .

A two-week or three-week school internship , depending on the school, is compulsory and is usually carried out in grade 11.

At most schools there is also a differentiation area usually comprising 2 hours per week, possible electives are, for example:

After leaving the lower level, the basic professional knowledge in the professional field of business and administration is certified. There is also the option of acquiring the “State EDV driving license NRW”, which consists of eight modules. The subjects of office management, word processing and business informatics have been replaced by the former subject of information management.

Grade 12 (upper level)

Attending the upper level presupposes that the last certificate of the lower level has achieved corresponding performance. It should not contain the grade 5 (poor) more than once. In the case of two courses, a promotion to the upper level is only possible by successfully passing a re-examination. If you fail the re-examination or if you fail three times or more, you are not promoted. Promotion is also excluded if a subject has a grade of 6 (unsatisfactory). Year 11 can only be repeated once. The upper level deepens the commercial knowledge gained in the lower level and prepares for the final exam , which takes place at the end of the school year. In the upper level, there is no natural science subject. For this purpose, new differentiation subjects can be introduced, which vary depending on the school offer (e.g. human resources management , commercial law or business processes ).

After successfully passing the final examination, the graduate is awarded the school part of the advanced technical college entrance qualification (examination subjects German, mathematics, English) and the extended professional knowledge in the examination subject business administration / accounting or in information technology (examination subject is determined by the school). In order to obtain the complete technical college entrance qualification, after acquiring the school-based part , the practical part is required, which must either be completed through vocational training, a minimum of 2 years of professional activity or a six-month guided internship.
