Hörnefors is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish municipality of Umeå , which belongs to the province of Västerbotten County . The settlement is about 30 km south of Umeå and has about 2500 inhabitants.
The place originated as Hörenåbruk in connection with an ironworks . In the 18th century there was a blast furnace and a forge. Production was stopped at the end of the 19th century, but a slag mountain and the local pond still remind of this time. Later the production of wood pulp and paper became important to the local economy, but this too was discontinued in the 1970s.
The place was on July 5, 1809 the site of a battle of the Russo-Swedish War . The battle was won by the Russian side with great losses, but it marked a turning point in the war, as the retreating Swedes found courage and countered in the battles that followed.
The place is also known for the football-playing brothers, Gunnar Nordahl , Knut Nordahl and Bertil Nordahl , who joined the Swedish team that won the gold medal at the 1948 Olympic Games in London .
