HabCat

The Catalog of Nearby Habitable Systems (HabCat) is a directory of star systems that could theoretically contain planets in the respective life zone. This list was compiled by researchers Jill Tarter and Margaret Turnbull under the auspices of Project Phoenix (part of SETI ).

The directory is based on the Hipparcos catalog , which contains a total of 118,218 stars. By sorting out for a wide range of stellar features, this list currently contains 17,129 "HabStars".
