The Hamburg South Sea Expedition was one between the 8. July 1908 and 22. April 1910 carried out the South Seas - Expedition to the Bismarck Archipelago and the Caroline Islands , by the Hamburg Scientific Foundation was equipped. The expedition was organized by the director of the Hamburg Ethnographic Museum , Georg Thilenius (1868–1937).

Under the leadership of Friedrich Fülleborn (1866–1933), the island world of Melanesia was explored in the first year of the trip , and the area in Micronesia in the second year under the new direction of Augustin Krämer (1865–1941) .

The results of the research trip were published as part of a series of publications, the results of the South Seas Expedition 1908–1910 , up until the 1950s. The ethnographic findings were mostly the focus.

The volumes were initially edited by Georg Thilenius. They have been published by Friederichsen in Hamburg since 1914 , and by Friederichsen & DeGruyter from 1929.

The overall series follows the structure:
