Hamilton is a city in Ravalli County in the US state of Montana and seat of the County administration ( County Seat ).
The place was founded at the end of the 19th century by the entrepreneur Marcus Daly, who processed wood from the surrounding area for the operation of his copper mines.
According to the 2000 census , Hamilton has 3,705 inhabitants.
Demographics
The 3705 inhabitants of Hamilton found in the 2000 census lived in 1772 households; including 855 families. The population density was 619 per km². 1,915 residential units were recorded in the village. Among the population were 96.2% White, 0.9% American Indians, 0.8% Asian, and 0.3% from other races; 1.8% said they belonged to several ethnic groups.

Hamilton is located in western Montana in the Bitterroot Valley . The next largest city, Missoula, with more than 50,000 inhabitants, is approx. 70 km north (upstream).
