Qualification for Handball world championship

The men's handball European championships have been played since 1994. They take place every two years. After qualifying, the best 24 (initially the best 12, from 2002 the best 16) teams of the European Handball Federation (EHF) have met here since 2020 . In addition to determining the best European team, the tournament also serves as a qualification for the handball world championship . The women's and men's handball European championships are always held separately, but always take place in the same year.

The Baltic Sea Cup, which was held from 1968 to 1989, can be seen as the unofficial forerunner of the men's European handball championship .
