Hannelore Valencak

Hannelore Valencak (born January 23, 1929 in Donawitz ; † April 9, 2004 in Vienna ) was an Austrian writer and member of the board of the Austrian PEN. She published lyric texts, fantastic stories and numerous books for children and young people.

Live and act

She spent her childhood and youth in Kapfenberg in Styria . She studied physics in Graz , did her doctorate in 1955 and then worked as a metallurgist in the steel company Felten & Guilleaume in Kapfenberg. Oskar Kofler, her first husband, died in a traffic accident in 1959. In 1962 she married Viktor Mayer and moved with him to Vienna, where she worked as a patent clerk until 1975. Since then she has been a full-time writer and has lived in Vienna and Bad Vöslau .

In her texts she repeatedly shapes the change of time and level of consciousness. This includes her 1967 time jump novel Das Fenster zum Sommer , which originally appeared under the title Refuge Behind Time . This novel is the movie Summer Window by Hendrik Handloegten (2011) is based. Another novel with this theme is The Magic Diary .

Valencak was buried at Vienna's Südwestfriedhof (group 70, row 1, number 36). The Hannelore Valencak settlement in Kapfenberg is named after her.
