Hans-Günther Kroth (born February 22, 1949 in Munich ) is a former German soccer player . The defender played 132 league games (2 goals) in the Bundesliga from 1967 to 1976 for the clubs TSV 1860 Munich and 1. FC Kaiserslautern . With Kaiserslautern he was in the 1976 DFB Cup final .

Career

Hans-Günther Kroth played for the professionals of TSV 1860 Munich from 1967 , after he had already played in the youth of the club, where he had come from FV Speyer . His first competitive game was not in the Bundesliga , but on November 14, 1967 in the Messestädte Cup against Liverpool (2-1). In the second leg against Liverpool he was substituted on by coach Albert Sing in the second half for Manfred Wagner . Four days later, on November 18, 1967, he then appeared in the league for the first time. In a 5-0 home win against Borussia Neunkirchen, he formed the defender pair with Rudolf Steiner in front of goalkeeper Petar Radenković . When he reached 12th rank, he had played 15 league games at the end of the round. He was soon able to fight for a regular place in the team and up until 1970 he competed 71 times (one goal) for the "Löwen" in the Bundesliga. After the end of the 1969/70 season, however, they were relegated to the second-rate Regionalliga Süd . In the relegation round the "Löwen" started with trainer Fritz Langner , who had been replaced by Franz Binder on November 13, 1969 .

In the regional league Kroth was a fixture in the Munich team, but the promotion did not succeed despite regular placements in the upper table area. In the first year 1970/71 the blue-whites reached fourth place under coach Hans Tilkowski and Kroth had accumulated in 33 league games (2 goals). In the last three years of the old second-rate regional league, 1860 took the ungrateful 3rd place; thus the entry into the Bundesliga promotion round had failed. In 1974, after a total of 117 regional league games (6 goals), he said goodbye to Munich and moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern and thus played again in the Bundesliga.

Under coach Erich Ribbeck he made his debut on September 11, 1974 in a 1: 3 away defeat at Werder Bremen with Lautern in the Bundesliga. He formed the defense of the "Red Devils" in front of goalkeeper Ronnie Hellström with Werner Melzer , Dietmar Schwager and Peter Schwarz . At the end of the round, the defender had completed 27 league games and his new club was 13th. In his second round at 1. FCK it went up in the table, the team reached 7th place with the two goalscorers Klaus Toppmöller (22 goals) and Roland Sandberg (17 goals); Kroth had played in all 34 league games (1 goal). The sporting highlight, however, was the DFB Cup of that year. With the Palatinate team, he reached the DFB Cup final in 1976 (0: 2 against Hamburger SV ). The absence of the outstanding goalscorer - due to the aftermath of a serious car accident - was very heavy and the participation of the three "wobbly candidates" Seppl Pirrung, Hannes Riedel and Roland Sandberg was only possible thanks to intensive treatment by the medical department.

After two seasons at FCK Kroth signed a contract with second division club Fortuna Köln . With the Cologne team, he just barely missed promotion to the Bundesliga in 1978 and 1979 with fourth place. From 1976 to 1979 he ran for the team of President Jean Löring in 53 second division games (1 goal). The engagement at Fortuna Cologne was his last professional position.

He spent the 1979/80 season at VfB Gaggenau in the Baden-Württemberg amateur league and then from the 1980/81 season he joined the district league club FV Wiesental in the Bruchsal football district as a player-coach. Kroth worked as a masseur at Karlsruher SC for years.
