Hans-Heinrich Sievert

Hans-Heinrich Sievert (born December 1, 1909 in Grittern near Erkelenz , † April 6, 1963 in Eutin ) was a German athlete and Olympian who was successful in the decathlon , throwing disciplines and long jump in the 1930s .

career

His greatest success is winning the European Championships in 1934 . He also set a decathlon world record on July 8, 1934 in Hamburg . Sievert was four times German champion in the decathlon (1931, 1933, 1934 and 1938), twice in the shot put (1930 and 1933) and in the discus throw (1933 and 1934) and once in the pentathlon (1938).

At the time of National Socialism, Hans-Heinrich Sievert was a symbol of the “master race” and a great hope during the 1936 Olympic Games . Sievert did not take part in the decathlon due to an injury , in which Glenn Morris (USA) beat Sievert's world record.

Sievert received his doctorate in 1938 at the University of Hamburg with the legal dissertation The Ehegattenerbhof and practiced the profession of district court counselor. During the Second World War , as an officer in the Wehrmacht, he ran into a mine in Hungary in 1944 and lost his left foot. After the war he was chairman of the Hamburg Athletics Association and sports advisor to the federal government. In 1957 he fell seriously ill, gave up his office and has lived on his father's estate in Eutin ever since .

He was married to Ruth Hagemann , a well-known athlete in the 1930s. His two daughters were also track and field athletes in the 1960s.

Hans-Heinrich Sievert belonged to the sports club Eimsbütteler TV . When he competed, he was 1.88 m tall and weighed 88 kg.
