Hans-Joachim Hoffmann-Nowotny

Hans-Joachim Hoffmann-Nowotny (born March 17, 1934 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † March 16, 2004 in Zumikon ) was a German sociologist and from 1975 to 2001 professor at the University of Zurich .

Live and act

After completing secondary education in 1961, Hoffmann-Nowotny studied sociology at the University of Cologne with René König , as well as social psychology, economics and business administration as well as jurisprudence, and in 1966 passed the examination as a graduate economist specializing in social sciences . In 1969 he received his doctorate (summa cum laude) at the University of Zurich, habilitated in 1973 and after two years there, after two years as a private lecturer and associate professor, he was appointed full professor in 1975. In 2001 he retired.

His research areas were social indicators , family and migration sociology .

Hoffmann-Nowotny was married. He died of a long-standing cancer.
