Hans-Konrad Selbmann

Hans-Konrad Selbmann (born December 11, 1941 in Stuttgart ) is a German medical computer scientist and professor emeritus at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

Professional background

Hans-Konrad Selbmann studied 1960-1967 mathematics at the Technical University of Stuttgart (Dipl.-Math.). From 1967 to 1970 he was head of a technical and scientific data center in industry. From 1970 to 1974 Selbmann was a research associate of the Department of Medical Statistics, Documentation and Data Processing, University of Ulm and received his doctorate there on 19 December 1972 to Dr. rer. biol. hum. From 1972 to 1974 Selbmann headed the section for biostatistics at the University of Ulm , before he became a research assistant at the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Statistics and Biomathematics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1974 to 1980 .

He completed his habilitation on April 22, 1976 at the University of Ulm in the field of "Medical Statistics and Data Processing".

From 1980 to 1984 Selbmann was C3 professor and deputy director of the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Statistics and Biomathematics at the LM University in Munich.

In 1984 he was appointed full professor for medical information processing at the University of Tübingen , where he was also managing director of the institute for medical information processing since 1986. From 1993 to 1995 Selbmann was vice dean and dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen, he retired in 2007.

voluntary work

From 1985 to 1987 Selbmann was President of the German Society for Medical Documentation, Informatics and Statistics GMDS (today: German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS))

From 1988 to 1990 Selbmann was a member of the Advisory Council of the Concerted Action in Health Care .

From 1992 to 2000 he was chairman of the Scientific Committee for Health Research of the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (BMFT, later BMBF)

In 1993, Hans-Konrad Selbmann and colleagues founded the Society for Quality Management in Health Care (GQMG) and was its founding chairman until 1997.

From 1999 to 2008 he was chairman of the Commission for Health Reporting of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI)

In 2004 Selbmann took over the leadership of the "Standing Commission Guidelines" of the AWMF ( Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies ) and was elected to the AWMF Presidium for the first time in 2006. From 2008 to 2016 he was a member of the board of the German Network for Health Services Research (DNVF) as a representative of the AWMF. In 2012 he took over the office of treasurer at the AWMF, which he held until he left the AWMF Presidium in May 2017.
