Hans-Peter Riese (* 1941 in Enger ) is a German journalist , art critic and curator . He was the foreign correspondent for ARD in Prague, Moscow and Washington and editor-in-chief of Hessischer Rundfunk. For forty years he was an art critic for the FAZ.

Life

From 1966 to 1970 studied at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt . During the studies journalistic work for the Hessischer Rundfunk (television and radio), in particular about the cultural and political situation in Prague . Texts for art catalogs followed. Riese was head of the features section of the student magazine DISKUS in Frankfurt. In 1967 he organized the exhibition “Constructive Concepts from Czechoslovakia” for the University's Studio Gallery. From 1968 permanent freelancer in the features section of the FAZ (specializing in art criticism and culture in Central / Eastern Europe). 1970 to 1973 he was a correspondent for the Stuttgarter Zeitung and the DLF in Prague. In 1973 he was expelled from Czechoslovakia . From 1974 to 1985 he was a correspondent for the DLF in Bonn (specializing in foreign policy). From 1985 to 1991 Riese was a correspondent (head of the ARD radio studio in Moscow) in Moscow . From 1991 to 2000 he was editor-in-chief radio, deputy program director Hessischer Rundfunk. From 2001 to 2006 Riese was a correspondent for HR, SR, RB and ORB in Washington (studio manager).

Since his retirement, Hans-Peter Riese has been a freelance author (art books, catalogs, monographs). He is curator for exhibitions art of the 20th / 21st centuries. Century in museums and galleries (international). He is a member of PEN Germany and AICA and lives in Berlin .

He wrote catalogs and exhibitions on Lohse , Glattfelder , Kubicek, Urbasek, Böhm, Fiebig, Bruskin , Kolar and others. a. and publications on questions of art theory in East and West, etc. a. “Art, constructively concrete”. He is a lecturer (honorary professor) in Offenbach and Cologne. He is a collector of mainly constructive art from East and West and chairman of the "Michaela Riese Foundation" in the "Art Forum Ostdeutsche Galerie" Regensburg.

Michaela Riese Foundation

In the course of his life, Hans-Peter Riese put together a private library that he transferred to the Regensburg University Library in 2018 . This collection contains technical and special literature on European modern art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, especially from German-speaking and Eastern European countries. One focus is publications on Eastern European art, especially on Russian and Czech artists.
