Hans Aarsman

Hans Aarsman (born December 27, 1951 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch photographer and author .

He started out as a photojournalist, including for the daily Trouw . In 1989 he published the book Hollandse Taferelen (Dutch panel paintings) - landscapes, photographed from the roof of his camper, with which he traveled through the Netherlands for a year. In 1990/91 he made a series of photos of East German cities. In 1993 he published the photo book Aarsmans Amsterdam and in 1995 Een engeltje dat over mijn tong piest , in 2003 his car photography book Vrooom! Vrooom! .

In addition to his photographic work, Aarsman writes novels and plays . His debut work was Twee hoofden, een kussen (1995). In recent years he has devoted himself more to writing than photography. “The pen has a lens with multiple perspectives, multiple viewpoints are possible at the same time,” he said.

Aarsman is a lecturer at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. In 1993 he received the Maria Austria Prize .

Since 2006, 99 photos by Aarsman have been available for free download on the website of the Nederlands fotomuseum .
