After graduating from the commercial academy in Vöcklabruck in 1975, he studied religious education in Salzburg. Eichhorn took over the fishing rights on Lake Attersee from his parents in 1983. In 1987 he married Elisabeth, with whom he had three children.

This was followed by intensive literary work with numerous publications in literary magazines such as manuscripts , literature and criticism , text + kritik , Wespennest , Facetten, Rampe et cetera and on Austrian radio (ORF) . In 1993 his first book was published by the Residenz-Verlag with Das Zimmer als voll Bauch . Since then, many other publications as well as several prizes and grants have followed. Eichhorn was a sideline fisherman . In May 2017, he was the subject of many media reports after he fished his own wallet out of the Attersee from a depth of ninety meters , which he had lost there around 20 years earlier. In addition to a bank customer card, it also contained 500 schillings .

Eichhorn died two weeks after his 64th birthday after a long and serious illness.
