Hans Ernst Weidinger

Hans Ernst Weidinger (born July 29, 1949 in Vienna ) is an Austrian philologist , theater scholar and art historian and founder of the Don Juan Archive in Vienna .

Life

Weidinger studied Jus , Classical Philology , Theater Studies and Art History at the University of Vienna . He also completed dance and singing training and piano studies in Vienna and Prague. He made numerous study trips to Italy, especially Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Palermo, but also to London and Prague.

Weidinger took part in symposia at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa , at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the ISSEI in Pamplona .

Weidinger is the founder (1987) and president of the Don Juan Archive Vienna, a non-university research institution that is dedicated to the history of Don Juan material up to Lorenzo Da Pontes and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni as well as the reception of this opera and was the founder in 2000 of the Da Ponte Institute in Vienna, which existed until 2006, with Herbert Lachmayer as director.
